Panaji: French actor Marianne Borgo, 75, left her bungalow in Calangute, a popular tourist town near Panaji, after alleging she was held hostage over a property dispute. Borgo claimed she was blocked by the widow of the previous owner for 11 days, and that her property's electricity and water connections were cut, forcing her to live in darkness. She stated that she could not remain in such conditions and that her health was deteriorating.
In a statement, Borgo expressed disappointment with PM Narendra Modi's efforts to create a tourism-friendly image of India, saying "This is not Modi's Idea of India." Despite Modi's work to promote a positive image worldwide, the recent events have left Borgo feeling that the achievements have not reached the state level in Goa. The local police claimed that they couldn't intervene as the dispute had reached court.
Borgo bought the house in 2008 from a lawyer named Francisco Sousa but faced issues after Sousa died during the COVID pandemic. Borgo is a trained actor who has worked in films, TV, and theater in Europe and India, with credits including "The Bourne Identity", "A Little Princess", and "Le Divorce". She was a recurring character in the French series "Profilage" and recently starred in the Indian production "Danny Goes Aum".
