My name is Sébastien Batardy, I have recently graduated from Heriot Watt University, earning a Master of Arts (with Honours) of Applied Linguistics and Translation and I am offering my services as a Translator and Proofreader, going between English, French and German. My linguistic skills are native in each language, French and German being my native languages, whereas I learnt English in high school, passing the Cambridge Proficiency Exam, then perfected it by going to University at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, studying Applied Linguistics and Translator. I already have experience in in-house translation, translating in-game content for video game company, subtitles for a media company, and other commercial websites, as well as assisting in translating a digital banking platform. My other work experiences also center around languages, working for a bank in the customer service department, covering the French and German lines on top of the English line, which helped me to perfect my linguistics skills, teaching me a strict work ethic as there is little room for error with things as important as credit cards. I pride myself in being as accurate as possible in translation, a skill that was honed after 4 years of university where only the highest standard of linguistic accuracy was accepted. I believe that I am in a unique position regarding translation as I have intimate knowledge of all three cultures for which I translate as I've lived, studied and worked in France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Scotland and England, enabling me to analyse the different local connotations and utilise the vocabulary specific not only to the country, but to the region required. University has also taught me, through the research that went into my dissertation on Applied Linguistics, as well as researching individual translation projects, the methods and resources to utilise when translating any document, which provided me with a base knowledge, and the skills necessary to research and translate for a wide variety of projects, including finance, medical, literary and technical translations.
