The Dutch company Gasterra announced, on Monday, that the Russian company Gazprom decided to stop the delivery of gas quantities after refusing to pay in Russian rubles. The Dutch company Gasterra refused to pay for Russian gas according to the plan proposed by Gazprom (in rubles). The Dutch company stated that "Gazprom has informed it to terminate the supply from May 31, and as a result, under the current contract, it will not receive 2 billion cubic meters of gas." The Dutch company added that it did not know whether the European market would deal with the loss of two billion cubic meters of gas that was passing through it without "serious consequences". The Netherlands announced last April its intention to stop importing natural gas and oil from Russia by the end of this year. The government revealed that it planned to fill all storage depots in the country before winter. About 15% of the Netherlands' energy needs are supplied by Russia at the moment. The government said it will negotiate supply agreements with other countries as soon as possible, and intends to import significantly more LNG in the future. An existing LNG terminal will be expanded in Rotterdam, and a floating terminal will be built in Eemshaven in the north of the country. The government also announced that it will focus on energy-saving measures to reduce gas demand. For its part, Gazprom, the Russian energy giant, launched the gas war with Finland on May 21, when it announced a complete halt to gas supplies to Finland.
