At least two people have been killed and dozens of others are feared dead following the Russian bombing of a school in Bilohorivka, Luhansk regional Gov. Serhiy Gaidai, said on Sunday, according to Reuters.
The big picture: Around 90 people had been sheltering inside the school in the village, which is part of eastern Donbas region.
- Emergency workers discovered rescued 30 people and discovered two bodies among the debris, Gaidai said in a Telegram message on Sunday.
Why it matters: Russia launched a major offensive in the Donbas last month that both sides have characterized as a decisive "second phase" of the war, Axios' Zachary Basu wrote. After several weeks, the U.S. believes Russian forces are "behind schedule" and experiencing many of the same problems that forced them to retreat from Kyiv.
