Fallen movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is facing new criminal charges in the UK, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service announced Wednesday.
The CPS’s Special Crime Division has authorized London’s Metropolitan Police to charge Weinstein, 70, with two counts of indecent assault against a woman – raps that stem from an incident that happened nearly 30 years ago in August 1996.
“Charges have been authorized against Harvey Weinstein, 70, following a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,” a spokesperson for the CPS said in a news release.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”
