Thinking Tourism was founded in 2014 by Sean Owens, who offers a unique, global perspective on today’s tourism experiences. He has worked extensively with hotel groups, tour operators, charities, NGOs and tourism boards worldwide. Sean started his career in the 1990s with leading hotels such as the Four Seasons Philadelphia and the Waldorf=Astoria in New York. Later on in Scotland, he was responsible for managing prestigious events on board the Royal Yacht Britannia, before going on to manage resort hotels in Greece. He has an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management, plus a Foundation Qualification in Project Management for Sustainable Tourism (PM4SD). While working on sustainable development strategy at TUI Group, the world’s largest tour operator, he helped advance understanding and practice of sustainability in the mainstream tourism industry, in the UK and beyond. For example, in 2011, he developed TUI Travel’s Guidelines for Environmental Sustainability in Hotels, and in 2013, provided extensive support to the Travel Foundation, as part of an initiative to integrate minimum standards for sustainability in hotel quality ratings in Cyprus. In 2014, he led TUI UK & Ireland to become the first UK to do so. Thinking Tourism offers practical advice and strategic support to tourism organisations committed to doing business better.
