With the summer temperatures soaring, people are advised to drink plenty of fluids, wear light-coloured clothing, hats, and use a high-factor sunscreen.
What should I look for in sunscreen?
Most of us are familiar with the Sun Protection Factor (SPF), which is the high number found on the packaging of a sunscreen bottle. The higher the number, the more protection it provides.
Many brands also carry a five-star rating, and understanding that rating can be just as important.
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) tells you how much protection a sunscreen offers from UV rays. The star system tells you what percentage of ultraviolet rays (UVA) sunscreen absorbs compared to how much ultraviolet rays (UVB) are absorbed.
