For illustration I sketch image in pencil the ink over it. Next I scan it and use gimp to color it. For Pet portraits I work from a photo and lay out a grid. Next I carefully lay out the general shapes, then proceed to details. One illustration page takes about two hours. One portrait takes approximately eight hours. Portraits are done in a scale of 3:1. Overall page size is about 14 by 11.
