Indo-European Linguist and Translator

$25/hr Starting at $25

Hello, My name is Johan Josefsson and I am from Sweden. Due to my degree in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics, I have great experience of conducting complex transcription and translation tasks and grammatical analyses. The discipline includes studies of extinct languages in comparison with modern ones in order to reconstruct our common original language (Proto-Indo-European). Key skills for this reconstruction work are great knowledge of phonology (sound changes and sound laws) and phonetics in combination with morphology, syntax, semantics and etymology, in over 10 languages in different times. The studies are initiated with Sanskrit, Vedic Sanskrit and Avestan (Old-Iranian language). Knowledge of Latin and Ancient Greek is crucial to the understanding of the Indo-European system. Due to the separated conceptual worlds of these old languages, I have learnt to observe the important semantic nuances in languages and developed good stylistic skills. Grammatical analyses and translation work made up my everyday life for years. To this, I have studied a master course in Contrastive Analysis from a Translation Perspective, including EU-texts among other texts. This course really focused on the different aspects – cultural, political, social, pragmatical, etc – in the translation process. To date, I have studied 19 languages. Further, my scientific experiences have made me attentive to details and analytically sharp, and given me great skills in proofreading. I also hold a Master's Degree in Museum and Heritage Studies. Through this education, I have gained great cultural sensitivity skills and improved both my theoretical and practical skills in heritage related issues, as well as strenghten my skills in content and article writing. Best regards, Johan
