As part of the usability space, I can research the information architecture (IA) for your product. I can do this in a number of ways but to be successful the following steps are generally needed. Contextual Inquiry - Initially, I will either have to go through some pretty intensive stakeholder reviews or perform a product review to grasp the vastness of the product. Without this knowledge a thorough IA cannot be performed. Mind Mapping - Once I have the product concept understood, I can then begin to break it down into understandable size bits to build a mind map. I do this by sectioning & grouping like items to build the IA. Once complete, I will share this with the stakeholders for review. Card Sorting - I can then build card sorting campaigns. I will solicit identified users of the product, and ask them to participate in short simple sessions. Analytics - From the card sorting sessions, analytics will be provided. Using the analytics I can create a first draft of the IA. Concept - The first draft is used to build an initial concept. This concept will be used for user testing. User testing - Initial concept will be user tested with identified product users to determine the effectiveness of it. Analytics - User testing analytics will be compiled from the test data to determine the success of the first concept. Stakeholder Review - Findings from the first concept will be shared with the stakeholders for review. Iteration - These steps can be repeated as needed, iterating the concept on each pass, until a successful outcome is reached. My normal rate is $75/hr, on Guru I am only charging $50.
