Interdisciplinary Social Justice Writer

A passion for learning has continually driven me to seek out new experiences, evidenced by living in Spain and Peru on two separate grants that I was awarded (The Fulbright U.S. Student Exchange and The Davis Projects for Peace Foundation and ). What made me successful in such unfamiliar environments was my leadership experience, starting in the Boy Scouts of America, continuing in captain roles on high school sports teams, and persisting throughout my extracurricular activities at Bates. My long-standing inclination to challenge myself highlights my goal-oriented mindset, dedication to the community, resilience while performing difficult tasks, and cultural competency. Immersion in different fields of study and contexts has also continued to shape my interdisciplinary perspective with regard to topics from environmental sustainability to social justice and structural violence. In my writing, I believe that passionate emotion mixed with data driven research and evidence is the key way to create environments of collaboration to enact positive influences on our world. I would be interested in any work that is pursuing making a difference whether it is related to healthy nutrition, bringing awareness to injustices, highlighting ethical business practices, or anything in between. I want to write about what matters. My writing skills began to exponentially strengthen during my time at Bates College (A top liberal arts school in Maine) because of the varied content that I was studying. I was a pre-medical student, so courses in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and physics enhanced my scientific writing. My spanish major and philosophy minor added a humanities focus that ranged from philosophy of the mind to international relations to history and film critiques.
