LIVERLIVER, England (Reuters) - Michael Keane scored a last-gasp goal to give Everton a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, in a major boost for the team in their battle to avoid relegation from Premier League football.

The goal was some solace for the 30-year-old Kane after an earlier tackle on Cristian Romero led to a Tottenham penalty that Harry Kane converted into the net in the 68th minute.

Kane said: "Very happy. You won't believe it but I shoot that way every now and then in training. To see a shot go into the back of the net is amazing. Very happy after causing a penalty and then making it up".

Sean Dyche's side pressed for an equaliser in the dying minutes, with Kane touching the ball twice before firing a shot into the top corner of goal, sending the enthusiastic crowd at Goodison Park into big celebrations.

"(Kane) is in good shape. During the workouts shows its quality. I think everyone on the pitch thought we were going to score the equaliser. I know I will."

Everton jumped to 15th place with 27 points, one point off the relegation zone. Four of the clubs below him in the standings have played a game less.

"It's another step in the right direction. It's just a point but it means a lot. The mentality of the players goes from strength to strength."

Tottenham, who are in a race to finish the season in the Golden Square and qualify for next season's Champions League, had to settle for one point in their first game since coach Antonio Conte was sacked.

Tottenham returned to fourth place with 50 points, level with third-placed Newcastle United and fifth-placed Manchester United, but each played two games less than the London club.

Everton lost the efforts of Abdoulaye Doucoure after receiving a red card in the 58th minute after Kane grabbed the shirt of the Malian midfielder, who responded with a blow to the face of the England captain to bring the latter down on the pitch.

"You can't show hands, we know that," said.

Tottenham also finished the game with ten men after Lucas Moura was sent off two minutes from the end.

Both teams had several chances to score on a fun night. Kane almost put his Tottenham team in front in the ninth minute but his shot from close range Kane cleared it off the goal line before it found the net.

A minute later Kane sent a straight shot over the Tottenham goal.

Everton had a great chance to equalise in the 76th minute but Idrissa Jana G's shot from 20 yards was turned by Lloris over the crossbar.
