Man from Odisha pays tribute to Puneeth Rajkumar at marathon
The map of Karnakata with a smiling Puneeth Rajku mar’s picture right in the middle was the costume worn by one marathon runner at the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bengaluru mara thon on Sunday. The runner was software engineer Manas Kumar from Odisha, who had arrived from Telangana to pay tribute to the late actor. Kumar said his love for Puneeth began during his stay at Marathahalli here. “He was no ordinary cine star. He was a compassionate human being. Apart from his movies, his charity work, namely old-age homes, schools for the underprivileged, and contribution to Covid-19
relief, reminds us of his greatness even after he has left us,” the 30-year-old said.
Team of Covid messengers urges people to remain alert
While most people have put the pandemic behind th em, a man and his team arrived at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) World 10K Bengaluru marathon on Sunday to remind the city that Covid-19 is still a threat and everyone must remain alert. RT Nagar resident Sendhil Kumar has never missed the mega marathon in the city. However, in the last two years, many enthusiasts like him were forced not to run as the event was cancelled on account of Covid-19.
50k in Karnataka get Covid compensation; 29k make claims now
In Karnataka, which has reported 40,063 Covid-19 deaths so far, 58,753 families have applied for death compensation. Of these, 50,007 have received relief as of May 13. Payment has failed for 5,325 applications over bank details, and 3,421 are awaiting approval. As per data accessed by TOI , of the 58,753 applications, 29,466 were among the 40,063 deaths recorded by the health department. Remaining 10,597 families have not shown interest or have no legal heirs. The other 29,287 applications are from families whose members’ deaths have not been officially recorded. District special committees have now declared them as Covid-19 deaths.
According to the state health department, the active number of Covid patients reached 1,891
A total of 18,566 Covid samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
