JOHANNESBURG - The Information Regulator has served the SAPS with a summons after personal information of the Krugersdorp gang rape victims was leaked. 

The Information Regulator's Alison Tilley said: "[The] SAPS are unable to explain how this information came to be circulated on WhatsApp groups outside police so the fact that you cannot explain, tells you there is a significant problem. 

"So I think that's a clear signal that there is difficult certainly within the group of investigators as to who should be held responsible.

"We have not been able to get a response from SAPS on that, that's why we have to ask them to come into the regulator in response to the summons and tell us what has been going on."
