As a designer who has worked on both sides of print production, I have an in depth understanding of the push and pull between prepress operators and designers. Because of this experience I have developed a system of design that will keep me from creating a piece that "looks good on screen" but will not print. This is a problem with many designers (even the ones who have been in the business for years.) Aside from the money this costs it can be disappointing to clients who have had their hopes up over a particular design that just will not "RIP." But just because I have the technical know how doesn't mean that I am a less talented artist. I have a well diversified portfolio of layouts logos and collateral, and the Charles L. Smith Award for Design Excellence under my belt.
