One of my first jobs, in 1974, was transcription for my mother, who was a court reporter. That was before there was such thing as computer-aided transcription. It was before copiers were reliable or affordable, so on an electric typewriter, I would type an original and two carbon copies. I have continued to transcribe since then, and even taken the court stenography courses at San Francisco City College, when I thought I would like to be a court reporter myself. It turned out that I liked transcription better. I have run my own desktop publishing / web design company since 1994, and published a statewide newspaper for more than a year. I enjoy making order out of chaos.
