I use Linux as my sole desktop operating system and have experience with setting up Linux servers in the cloud (primarily on Digital Ocean). I am able to do the following:  

• Write Bash scripts

• Perform security updates

• Create users, set permissions, etc.

• Use SSH

• Troubleshoot network issues

• Understand and use firewalls, SSL/TLS certificates and best-practices for hardening a server

• Use rsync and other tools to perform backup and recovery

• Use monitoring tools such as Nagios to monitor memory, disk and CPU usage

My computing experience goes back to the 1970s, when I first started to program (in Fortran). I have written two books on the threaded interpretive language FORTH and, more recently, was commissioned by Manning to work on a book on PostgreSQL. I have extensive experience with both front-end and back-end development (React/Redux/Node/Next/D3).
