Three people were killed after Ukrainian forces shelled a separatist government building in Donetsk with US-supplied Himars rocket systems, local officials told Russian news agency TASS.
Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) local administrative headquarters suffered a direct hit and six others were wounded during the strikes in the city on Tuesday, according to the Kremlin-installed mayor of Donetsk Alexey Kulemzin.
A separatist official said at least one of the shells used in the attack on the eastern Ukrainian city was fired from a US-made Himars artillery system, Russian state news agencies reported.
The region of Donetsk has been under the control of the Moscow-backed separatist group since 2014.

Putin betting on EU response fracturing as prices soar, says Josep Borrell
Russia's President Vladimir Putin is betting the united EU response to his invasion of Ukraine will fracture as soaring prices hit European voters' wallets, Brussels' foreign policy chief has warned.
In an interview with AFP, EU high representative Josep Borrell said Putin sees "the weariness of the Europeans and the reluctance of their citizens to bear the consequences of support for Ukraine".
"We will have to endure, spread the costs within the EU," Borrell added, warning that keeping the 27 member states together was a task to be carried out "day by day".

The 72.5-metre vessel is being auctioned by the Gibraltar Admiralty Court. It was listed for one day, with closed bids to be sent electronically by midday on Tuesday, a court spokesman said.
The boat, which can sleep 12 people in six cabins, has a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a spa, 3D cinema, jet skis and scuba diving equipment.
