Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Tshwane is making changes to its operations for the next four months effective Monday, 25 April.

The Reserve will now open at 11:00 instead of the normal 06:00 get time on Mondays and Wednesdays. 

OPERATING CHANGES IN TSHWANE’S RIETVLEI NATURE RESERVE

City of Tshwane spokesperson, Selby Bokaba said this is to create a safe environment for nature conservation operations and maintenance without any possible hindrances. 

“This adjustment will also apply to all activities such as morning drives, hikes and access to the coffee shop. 

“The normal gate times (which are from 06:00 until 18:00) will still be applicable on all other days, including weekends and public holidays.” 

Established in 1929, the Rietvlei Nature Reserve is one of the largest urban nature reserves in South Africa.

It also has an abundance of wildlife right on the capital city dwellers’ doorsteps.

The reserve also boasts three of the Big Seven species in South Africa (buffalo, rhino and cheetah).

The reserve also recently welcomed a new family member! A rhino calf.

The calf was estimated to be about two days old. It was spotted with its mother, Pippa on Friday morning. 

As previously reported, City of Tshwane MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management, Katlego Mathebe said the calf will only be named once its gender has been determined.
