The incident happened near the western bank of the Mississippi River.

A man suffered serious injuries in a fall from a cliff on the western banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis Saturday.

Minneapolis Fire Department says it was called to 26th Street East and West River Parkway South shortly before 6 p.m. after a report the victim had "fallen 10 feet off a cliff."

They found the man 10-feet down a river bluff, but 80 feet down from the road.

"Fire crews were able to reach the patient located near the riverbank, conscious but in serious condition with broken lower extremities and possible back injury," MFD said.

Fire crews splinted the patient’s extremities, placed him on a backboard to stabilize his back and loaded him into a rescue basket."

The injured man was ultimately picked up by the MFD Fire Boat, which took him to the University of Minnesota Row Club, where he was met by paramedics.

No further information on his condition has been provided.
