Medical data exist in a vast array of confusing and incompatible formats. Normalization is the transformation of medical data into an organizational schema that is usable and interoperable. It is my recommendation that all medical data be normalized to FHIR, which is the schema that has been selected by the US Dept of HHS as the preferred schema for nationwide medical data interoperability.
