Every man, woman and child has a track on one label or another these days and with a saturated market, it ain't so easy to get a slice of that sweet audio pie... But every now and then, a knight arises and this time it's come in the form of British based duo, 2ndSun. Not that we can be surprised, with support coming in from Skream, Roska, George Fitgerald and the one and only James Zabiela. We knew that whatever came from the top half of the U.K. was gonna be a belter. We were definitely impressed when they flung their new EP 'Quanta’ our way late April... and let us tell you. You're in for a treat! The first track to decorate the time we were experiencing was ‘Drift’. As soon as it came on we could feel the nostalgia, thinking we were going to be taken into some oldschool breakbeat sort of track we were thrown off guard by an 80’s synth vibe, only to be deceived once again when it came in with a brutal stab. At this point it was time to go to the shops… we needed new underwear. Altogether, it was a fairly smooth track. Nothing you’d find in a four to the floor environment; but nevertheless refreshing to hear. “Control.” That’s what we were told in the next track. With a regular 4/4 kick and some distortion in the background, this track was a little bit easier to groove to. There’s plenty for the ears here with a hypnotic vocal telling us to “Work!” and a nice lady accompanying it, reminding us she’s having a good time with her shunts and grunts. In the second half of the track it sounded like Manuel De La Mare had had his own input with a fast percussion line to add on top. Fans of anything bassline will be right at home. The 3rd track ‘Divisive Circuit’ was our favourite out of the lot. The track opens up straight away with a nice little warm up taking it back to the darker side of techno, before punching you in the face with plucked synth stabs slowly dissolving into acidic elements.
