FacebookTwitterWhatsAppSMSEmailSaveBATAVIA — Jacqueline Siegel McLean and Mark Hoerbelt continue to share their musical talent with local students, while other Musicians of Note — Cindy L. Baldwin, Beth Ann Lambein Hooker and the late Lyle Mark have already made their mark in the classroom and in the community. The five were celebrated Friday evening as Batavia High School Musicians of Note inductees in a ceremony at the High School Auditorium.Jacqueline Siegel McLeanMcLean is the daughter of Dr. Alan and Rosemary Siegel. Born in 1984, she graduated from Batavia in 2002 after her family moved here from Long Island in 1996. McLean was choir director at the Newfield Central School District from 2006 to 2010 and has directed the choir at the Le Roy Central School District since 2010, and received the Golden Apple Award in 2018.
She has been Le Roy Musical Artistic Director of the district’s Stars of Tomorrow, award-winning musical program since 2010.
McLean said she was surprised when she first found out she was being honored this year.
“It was really hard to come here, at first, from Long Island. This was where I found my people,” she said. “The teachers that were here created what I considered an extended family.”
The Le Roy Select Ensemble of Evan Williams, Nathan Yauchzee, Maureen Klaiber and Allison Privatera performed onstage with McLean.
“I’m so thrilled that my students are here because I think anybody who is a teacher knows that they’re not a teacher without the kids that they have to teach,” she said. “They are an extension of my family and I hope they feel that. Thank you so much for this honor, thank you to Batavia city schools for this moment. I will never forget it.”
