Thousands of workers have been let off worldwide since Musk assumed control of Twitter on October 27. Even on his first day, the billionaire sacked several key Twitter officials, including the CEO.

According to Insider's Kali Hays, there were plans to fire 3,700 workers, or around 50% of the staff, and provide severance to those affected.

Some Twitter employees, including one who was eight months pregnant, claimed they were locked out of their work laptops, emails, and Slack accounts almost a week following Musk's takeover before being informed that their positions had been terminated.

However, according to a prior story from Insider, Twitter has already asked some of the fired employees to return.

Musk wrote on Friday that "everyone departed was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally necessary."

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, has expressed regret over the layoffs, claiming he "expanded the company size too quickly."
