Payroll Design/Development Expert

The very first project in my IT career was design, development and deployment of an integrated Payroll/HR system for Tata Motors Ltd (1981-83). This system was developed in a Unisys mainframe environment, primarily using COBOL and catered to a workforce of about 13,500 employees (i.e. Tata Motors' workforce during those years). By virtue of this, gained exposure to large company Payroll/HR. Functionality provided was comprehensive plus I was exposed to almost all the complexities and subtleties of Payroll/HR by being associated with it. My work included participation in design, programming to specifications (I wrote a significant number of the total programs using COBOL), testing, deployment and maintenance. The functionality provided included: (A) Attendance capture, over-time capture (B) HR updates (new employee capture, deletion of separated employee, employee detail updates etc.) (C) Payroll calculations (including Income-Tax calculation by projection /automatic Tax deduction through Payroll) (D) Coin Analysis (E) Bank-wise salary credit advice (F) Post-payroll processing: Cumulation of attendance/overtime records by employee, Cumulation of HR updates for Career History Analysis, Management Information System (MIS) reporting & (G) Satutory Reporting - Printing of reports required by various Govt. agencies in India e.g. Annual Report u/s 217(2A) of the Companies Act, Form-16 for individual employee etc. I have also worked on other Payroll projects later in my career. I can confidently design/develop a Payroll system given the specifications.
