* 10 years experience with php coding I have done hundreds of projects, big and small, in the last 25 years, for both Open Source, with private companies. When approaching a new project, I like to ask a lot of questions to pin down the exact requirements and needs before I accept a job. I have found this saves a lot of headaches and misunderstandings later, as well as unwelcome surprises. As result, my completion rate is high, and a lot of my clients have been repeat customers. My philosophy is that both the client and developer can learn new things with every consultation, and I am pleased to talk with "window shoppers" as there is always something new to learn Most of the things that can go wrong in freelancing work, and this goes double for people who are not used to working with each other, is caused by miscommunication and lack of research of the problems. Without understanding the issues completely before work is done, this can lead to abandoned projects, frustration for the programmer and client, and missed deadlines. Due to my methods, I rarely encounter unexpected issues that can cause these. I am a firm believer in writing up detailed requirements specifications, even for small projects I am used to being a full stack developer, which means I can work on both the backend (server code, database, processing) and the front end (pretty web pages, making interactive page and forms for users). I am also used to connecting web sites with web services like Facebook and Twitter and many other services. I am used to cleaning up messy and buggy code, or using one of the many packages (php) and gems (ruby) that are available. I am a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel unless necessary.
