$25/hr Starting at $25

An 18-year-old has died after a two-car crash in West Chester on Tuesday.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Tylersville and Butler-Warren roads.

Officials said an 18-year-old was taken to the hospital where he later died. The coroner's office has identified him as Jyan Waespe. The cause of death is listed as multiple traumatic injuries. Preliminary manner of death is listed as an accident.

Mason City Schools posted on Twitter, saying Waespe was a Mason High School class of 2022 graduate.

"This is a terrible loss, and our hearts go out to Jyan’s family and friends in what we know must be unimaginable grief," the school said in a post.

A West Chester spokesperson originally said the other driver was arrested for OVI but issued a correction saying "the driver was detained for investigation of OVI and then released without charges pending the outcome of the investigation."

The investigation is ongoing.

According to a GoFundMe created by a family friend, Waespe and his girlfriend, Kayla were awaiting the birth of their son. Baby Toby is due in August, the friend stated.

All funds raised will be gifted to Waespe's mother to help with unexpected expenses, his girlfriend and baby Toby.
