The police have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the fire that started at the end of the afternoon yesterday in a secondary school in Roermond. The director of the school assumes that the fire was aimed at a teacher. "This is very intense," Marc Demandt, director of the school, told RTL Nieuws.
The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. yesterday in the Broekhin college on Bob Boumanstraat in Roermond. Slogans were also left at the school, Demandt says that the teacher's name was also chalked on the school with a spray can.
Name of teacher in the picture
Films were also made of the slogans and the fire by the perpetrator himself. A text appears on the video with the name of the teacher and swear words follow. Incidentally, the perpetrator also partly filmed himself. The police inform RTL News that they are investigating the videos. No suspect has yet been arrested.
A school office was destroyed by the fire. The teacher against whom the fire is said to be directed works in that office. Demandt has 'good hope' that the perpetrator will be caught soon. "There are clues to who it is about, and there are good camera images and explanations."
Unrest after fire
Classes will continue on Monday, but Demandt says that there is unrest at the school among parents and teachers. "We will therefore first talk to each other tomorrow. This has an impact on everyone."
