After revenue growth slowed to 13%. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, warns workers that they are not productive. Finding a way to speed up product development

Sundar Pichai, the head of Google, told employees last Wednesday during a meeting that their productivity is not enough and that they need to come up with ideas to help the company become more innovative.

CNBC said Google employees have expressed concern about the tech giant's potential layoffs. Pichai was also quoted as saying that he has informed the staff of the results and is waiting for them to help. The organization faces a precarious working environment. The main problem is that productivity is not logical with the number of workers.

The CEO wants his workers to ‘create a culture that is more mission-focused, more product-centric, and more customer-centric. We must think about how to reduce distractions and raise the level of product excellence and productivity.

CNBC's report on last Wednesday's comprehensive meeting said the company is submitting an internal survey through August 15. At the meeting, Pichai told employees that the survey would help the company "get better results faster."

Questions in the survey include: “What will help you work more clearly and efficiently to serve our users and customers? Where should we remove speed pits to get better results faster? How can we eliminate waste and maintain entrepreneurship and focus as we grow?”

When asked directly if layoffs were planned, Pichai sidestepped the question, turning it over to chief personnel officer, Fiona Ciccone, who said there were no plans to let the employees go but did not rule this out entirely in the future.

Last week, Alphabet posted quarterly sales close to Wall Street's targets, sending shares to relief that the world's largest online advertising seller had avoided the deep disappointment of rivals including Snap.

In fact, sales from Google's search advertising business beat expectations, while revenue from YouTube advertising, cloud computing and Alphabet's "other bets" unit all came in lower than expected, according to data from FactSet and Refinitiv.

Higher wages combined with higher fuel prices and other items have forced some ad buyers this year to scale back on marketing, including ads on online services like Google that have served as a primary link to consumers during pandemic lockdowns.

Last week, Snap Inc and Twitter Inc published disappointing quarterly results, adding to concerns about slowing ad spending. Snap shares plunged 25% after its results.
