I have prepared back-of-the-book indexes for a number of STM books, including medicine, nursing, and computer science in addition to social sciences and humanities. Through the effective identification of concepts (and metatopics) and translating them into a controlled vocabulary, our indexes reflect both the author’s approach to information and perspectives and the reader’s approach to the subject matter. My standard protocols of indexing are based on Indexing Books (Second Edition) by Nancy C. Mulvany; and Facing the Text by Do Mi Stauber. I finally edit the index to ensure its accuracy, usability, and consistency. Accomplishments include the following: (i) prepared indexes for over 350 text and reference books published by LWW, Springer, McGraw Hill, Cengage, Kendall Hunt, Eleven Publisher, Pearson, Elsevier, etc. (ii) managed and supervised project management of another 600 book indexes with a team of indexes. (iii) collaborated with Volume Editors on a score of Major Reference Works, Encyclopedias, and Custom Derivatives.
