With over 30 years of hands-on field experience, 15 of which was as a General Contractor, combined with my academic accomplishments, has made me one of the more practical and pragmatic consultants to help you design and roll out your project management office (PMO) or Project Controls Office. Although I am intimately familiar with PMI, AACE, PRINCE2, IPMA and the Guild of Project Controls bodies of knowledge and methodologies, I do not subscribe to a single model or approach. I start out by facilitating workshops to identify what YOU and YOUR COMPANY need or want in a "project management" or "project controls" office and following the maxim that "form follows function", design your PMO organization structure around the services you and your team feel they need or want. Applying what I've learned as a tradesman as well as being a PADI SCUBA diving instructor and private pilot, I have developed instruments to accurately and reliably evaluate the COMPETENCIES of the people on your team and use those competency-based assessments as the basis to develop training programs to bring their skills and knowledge up to standards, or help you create job descriptions and help wanted advertisements to augment or supplement weaknesses identified in your team. Recent projects include setting up a fully integrated project management office for a large general contractor in Kuwait, that utilized Nomitech's CostOS software with IFS ERP system. A summary of what was done for that engagement can be seen here- https://pmworldjournal.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pmwj69-Apr2018-Giammalvo-ERP-and-BIM-Omniclass-coding-marriage-featured-paper.pdf Another successful PMO consultancy was done for Freeport Indonesia, https://pmworldjournal.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/PMWJ2-Sep2012-WIBIKSANA-EVM-Adapted-for-UndergroundMining-StudentPaper.pdf where we set up and trained a PMO team that documented savings of 42 million USD over a 4 year period.
