Architectural plans are used in order to come up with quantities for a building. Working with an Architect, the quantity surveyor ensures the interests of the client are addressed in the planning stage, inception stage, tendering stage, and execution stages of the desired project. As a quantity surveyor, preparing the cost estimates for a structure and ways of reducing or increasing the budget as the client wants is my task. I can work as a project manager where I can monitor the progress of the project. During construction, I can monitor the pace at which the contractors are working with and know if they are going at a good pace or a slow pace which can heavily impact the total budget of the project and the estimated time of completion.
