#Kidney failure

It is known that the kidneys carry out an indispensable role for the human body, which is the purification of blood from waste products secreted by the body.

When the kidneys are unable to perform this function, toxic waste accumulates in the blood and causes a disruption in the body's work, called kidney failure.

"This disease is painless, but it can be fatal, and it is diagnosed by analyzing the creatine content in the blood,"French doctor Anne-Helene kerard, a specialist in nephrology, tells AFP.

Current treatments for kidney failure include dialysis, blood purification, or kidney transplantation.

Onion and honey mix

There is no doubt that onions and honey have health benefits, but considering them as an alternative treatment for kidney patients is an unsubstantiated claim.

"There are no foods and no natural remedies yet known to cure kidney failure,"says Anne Helen Kirar.

According to the doctor, the approved medical recommendations for kidney patients are "beware of salt and adopt a healthy diet, not excessive in salt, sugar or fat".

Risks of stopping treatments

Circulating publications recommend kidney patients to stop the treatments prescribed by their doctors and proceed to the onion-honey mixture with the so-called miraculous results.

But this recommendation, made in a confident, decisive tone, would take the lives of patients.

Mohamed Ibrahim modashiro, a doctor specializing in kidney diseases in Ivory Coast, warns in an interview with Agence France-Presse that stopping treatments or self-medication without medical supervision can have serious consequences for the patient's health.

"The approved medical treatments work to curb the frequency of kidney failure or prolong the life of the kidneys, and these treatments vary and adapt to suit each case, but this can only be done under medical supervision,"the French doctor supports him, saying.

Mohamed Ibrahim admits that standing up to traditional or folk medicine is not easy. "All we recommend to our patients is that they should not beat these traditional treatments over medicine,"he says.

Disruption of transplanted kidneys

In response to the publications that the kidney that is transplanted into the human body returns and malfunctions after years, Mohammed Ibrahim says, "the kidney that is taken from the body of a brain-dead person works in the body of a kidney patient between five and ten years, and the kidney donated by a person while he is alive, works between ten and twenty years".

"Even if the life of the transplanted kidney in the body is limited, it remains an effective treatment" during these years, he adds.
