EN-- I've spent most if not all my career since I was an undergraduate student researching alternatives to improve the performance of building materials; in my undergraduate thesis we managed to add used motor oil to a concrete mix to evaluate the properties such as compression resistance, flexion and water absorbtion, all this to find out if any of those properties would improve with this experiment and as a result we obtained the right proportion of motor oil that didn't debilitated the concrete and helped as a plasticizing additive. The benefits of this experiment turned being the elimination of an environmental liability and the economic savings by not having to use a commercial plasticizing additive. As a master student of Seismic Engineering, in my thesis I evaluated the EPS core panel system to determine if it was a viable and safe constructive system, obtaining positive results to simulate in structural software desing and being able to calculate them effectively. Being the benefits of this experiment the improvement in the speed in the construction and is way more sheaper than the traditional constructive systems. ES-- He pasado casi toda mi carrera desde que era un estudiante de pregrado investigando alternativas para mejorar el desempeño de los materiales de construcción; en mi tesis de pregrado logramos añadir aceite de motor usado a una mezcla de concreto para evaluar la resistencia a la compresión, la flexión y la absorción de agua, todo esto para determinar si alguna de esas propiedades mejorarían con este experimento y como resultado obtuvimos la proporción adecuada de aceite de motor que no debilitaba el concreto y ayudaba como un aditivo plastificante. Los beneficios de este experimento fueron la eliminación de un pasivo ambiental y el ahorro económico al no tener que utilizar un aditivo plastificante comercial. Como estudiante de la maestría en Ingeniería Sismoresistente, evalué en mi tesis el EPS Core Panel System, para determinar si era un sistema constructivo viable y seguro, obteniendo resultados favorables y valores para simular en programas de diseño estructural, pudiendo así calcular estas estructuras. Resultando como beneficio la rapidez en la construcción, siendo de igual manera un sistema más económico que el tradicional.
