I have seven years of experience using Civil3D to model various civil road networks for industrial parks with minimal roads, to residential developments where roughly 50% of the area has been converted a road network, with the minimal cut and fill as the main objective. I have also modeled smaller features such as relatively simple detention ponds to complicated slope rehabilitation designs for failed slopes along a mountainous highway to determine the actual FGL contours. Of course, my experience has also led me to be proficient in 2D drafting of structural and civil works drawings with proper scales, annotative dimensions and labels, and proper layering for ease of editing.
