Governorate in Iraq was subjected to heavy rains that continued throughout the hours of Friday night - Saturday, and resulted in material damage to a number of homes and residential neighborhoods in some cities of the governorate, as the cities of Nasiriyah and Al-Rifai in the north of the governorate recorded the highest rates of rainfall during this year.

The municipalities, civil defense and electricity departments declared alert to face the effects of the heavy rain, at a time when the local government confirmed its endeavor to restore life to normal by drawing rainwater from the streets.

On the other hand, two employees of the Ministry of Electricity in the governorate were killed, on Saturday, while they were repairing faults in power transformers.

The people of the western regions of Baquba appealed to the government authorities to save them from the flooding of their homes and the disruption of life in them due to the heavy rains that fell on Friday night, which continued until Saturday noon, criticizing the absence of sewage projects for the largest neighborhoods of the city despite the federal budgets allocated to them during the past years.

The western neighborhoods of Baquba represented by Al-Katoon Al-Razi, Al-Rahma, Al-Mafraq, and Al-Moallem neighborhood are among the largest neighborhoods in Baquba, with a population of more than one hundred and fifty thousand people.

Family evacuation.

And the civil defense teams announced, on Saturday, the evacuation of a family after a partial collapse of a house due to rain in Baghdad.

According to a statement by the Civil Defense Directorate, "Civil defense teams evacuated a family in the Tobji area, near Baghdad, Karkh, as a result of a partial fall of the roof of their house due to heavy rains and the old building."

The statement indicated that "the family was expelled, and there were elderly among them, without recording human injuries, with warning tapes placed to prevent citizens from approaching the house, which is about to fall."

Public alarm in schools

A statement by the Ministry of Education stated, "The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Names al-Jubouri, directed the general directors of education and all school administrations to announce the general mobilization and to inspect schools and prepare them for students."

Al-Jubouri emphasized "the importance of paying attention to the service side, which is an indispensable necessity for the maintenance of schools, the drainage of accumulated and stale rainwater, and the cleaning of their entrances."

And he stressed, "Directors of education to expedite communication with the concerned municipal departments in their governorates, in order to preserve the safety of students."
