While attending UTPB I participated in Project SHARE grant program, that provided in depth preparation for students seeking Special Education certification. The grant provided opportunities to travel to different states including Kentucky and Kansas to attend the National Conference for CEC (Council for Exceptional Children). Participants in the grant program also had to give back to the community by serving at a low income school for at least two years after graduation. I have had the pleasure of teaching behavior and social skills classes at Clearfork Elementary for 11 years. My social skills classes are taught using the "Social Thinking"​ model. Social Thinking is based upon the teachings of Michelle Garcia, who believes that our "Social thinking is what we do when we interact with people: we think about them. And how we think about people affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us, which in turn affects our own emotions."
