STM copy editing and proofreading

$15/hr Starting at $30

Proofreading and copy editing of life science journal articles, dissertations, abstracts, press releases and essays. PhD, University of Bath (2001) I currently work freelance as a fully trained and qualified STM copy editor. I am also a post-doctoral scientist who has created, written and published research. Additionally, I design and maintain a number of weblogs and on-line sites (eg, bioexact.co.uk). My doctoral research led to a number of publications about influences of variable number tandem repeats (VNTRs) in proteins associated with the cell surface [1-4]. In post-doctoral research I have investigated the role of double strand breaks in meiosis and various DNA repair pathways. I have also researched the evolution of metal binding in prion protein VNTRs [5]. My most recent research used publicly available datasets to investigate the consequences of VNTR stability in human protein interactions [6]. 1. Bowen S, Roberts C, Wheals AE. Patterns of polymorphism and divergence in stress-related yeast proteins. Yeast. 2005;22:659-668. 2. Mannazzu et al. SED1 gene length and sequence polymorphisms in feral strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 2002;68(11):5437-5444. 3. Bowen S, Wheals AE. Ser/Thr-rich domains are associated with genetic variation and morphogenesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeast. 2006;23:633-640. 4. Bowen S, Wheals AE. Evidence that protein expansion and contraction is partly owing to pre-meiotic mutational events. Mol. Biol. Evol. 2006;23:1339-1340. 5. Klewpatinond et al. De-convoluting the Cu(II) binding modes of full-length prion protein. J. Biol. Chem. 2008;283:1870-1881. 6. Bowen S. Protein function influences frequency of encoded regions containing VNTRs and number of unique interactions. 2012;arXiv:1209.5760 [q-bio.GN]
