Steve has served as Senior Advisor and Speechwriter at NASA, Director of Speechwriting at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and Chief Speechwriter to then Governor Martin O'Malley of Maryland. He is a storyteller and communications strategist, specializing in speechwriting, copywriting, media training, creative, brand/message development, and executive communications. He has worked with governors, cabinet secretaries, astronauts, political candidates, activists, philanthropists, businesses, CEOs and scientists in high profile, high pressure environments, including: the rollout of HealthCare.gov; Governor Martin O’Malley’s fights for re-election, marriage equality, and a ban on assault weapons; the Ebola outbreak; and NASA’s Journey to Mars. He has taken the lead pen on five State of the State addresses, op-eds that have appeared in newspapers across the country, a prime time address at the Democratic National Convention, testimony that's been quoted in front page stories, along with hundreds of speeches, op-eds, and other communications materials. He was a member of Team Franken that assisted Al Franken with his #1 NY Times best selling book Lies & the Lying Liars that Tell Them. During his time in the Washington, DC area, Steve wrote and performed with the sketch comedy troupe, Frankie, which he co-founded.
