I am a chartered structural engineer who graduated from Manchester University in 1988. In recent years I have been responsible for managerial and technical aspects of bridge projects and other complex structures, particularly suspended ones. Although structural steelwork is most familiar to me, I most enjoy the unique challenges that arise with different combinations of material and structural form. Throughout my career I have worked in many phases of the construction process from conception of new works through to the refurbishment of historic structures and consider myself equally at home in the design office or on site, presenting and justifying my work to the Client or other critical audiences. I have been involved in the design and construction of a number of suspension and cable-stayed bridges, both as a consultant and a contractor. Forth Replacement Crossing (2011 - 2014) - Construction; This has given me substantial experience in the design, detailing and calculation of the unique components that are peculiar to suspended bridges. I have also had significant involvement in the specification, production and installation of these components, which necessarily involves extensive knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods.
