Canada's newest swimming sensation, Summer McIntosh, is redefining international standards.

The 16-year-old swimmer lowered a second world mark on Saturday night in national trials, this time in the 400m medley. McIntosh covered the distance in 4:25 87/100, beating the record held for seven years by Hungarian Katinka Hosszú (4:26.36).

It's really amazing and I'm happy to have set another world record, the swimmer told CBC Sports. For the moment, I only think of my legs. The 400m medley is one of the most difficult events.

I just tried to do my best and whatever the outcome, I'm happy with it.

On Tuesday, the swimmer broke Ariane Titmus' record in the 400m freestyle .

That's not counting the other national and junior brands that it beat this week .

This is the first time in history that the same person, man or woman, holds the world records in the 400m freestyle and the 400m medley at the same time.

McIntosh was once again able to achieve his feat in front of his family and a cheering crowd who came to cheer him on at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

It was also one of the largest crowds since the start of testing this week. McIntosh says the cheering helped her set her new world record.

I could really hear the crowd during the breaststroke,” said the 16-year-old. I was like, "go, go, go." I thought of nothing but putting my hand on the wall as quickly as possible.

She admitted, however, that she was coping with the pain after the race.

I'm so numb, the pain is so intense that I can hardly measure it. I just wanted to finish the race. I left everything in the pool, concluded McIntosh.

Not easy to digest, admits Titmus

The exceptional performances of the young swimmer go around the world and fascinate the swimming community.

Starting with Titmus, the great Australian swimmer, whose 400m freestyle record was broken by McIntosh.

It's never fun to see your record fall, it's hard to swallow, but looking back, it's as good as it happened now, Titmus told Australian television Channel Nine on Sunday.

It gives me a little rage in my stomach. I think you have to be naive to think that the times won't continue to drop. It's exciting for our sport. It promises for the 400 m free.

Summer McIntosh will be in action one last time at national trials on Sunday night for the 200 freestyle.

It will also be the World Championships which will take place in Fukuoka, Japan from July 14th.
