I am a technical writer with five years of experience from defense contractors to software development to IT. My unique career path has made me the sole/first tech writer at three different firms, so I am uniquely comfortable with any degree of creative responsibility, from re-writing existing documents for clarity to constructing comprehensive style guides, technical illustrations, and data visualizations from the ground up. I have documented military aircraft, network-based commercial security systems, and software for (1) oil pipeline management and (2) public transportation dispatch. I have regularly re-written proposals for clarity and visual appeal, playing a vital role in strengthening relationships between my employer and their clients. My MA in English with a concentration in Technical Writing has given me a versatility advantage from the very first day of my career, but I continue to strengthen that advantage by constantly pursuing new and relevant software and coding proficiencies. I have a fluency with the entire Microsoft Office suite— including Visio—that my portfolio can attest to, which means I can deliver a fully illustrated and correctly paginated document, a compelling and informative chart, a time-saving correction macro, or a complex, Visual Basic-driven Excel- or Access-based tool for a flat fee. I am also quite skilled in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat and able to write and modify HTML, CSS and Javascript. As I said above, I am constantly pursuing new proficiencies and can negotiate advantageous rates for clients with work that will compel me to learn new software or flex my coding muscle.
