My strength in creating technical documentation is in finding ways to customize the content for each type of user. For example, at a former employer, we had a procedure that was 27 steps long, with lots of "if you're doing this kind of task, complete the following four steps; otherwise skip to step 19" embedded throughout. The users were usually non-native speakers of English who might have a high-school diploma. I realized that they would never read through a 27 step procedure. I used JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology to enable users to customize the steps based on the type of appointment they were scheduling. With the JSP coding, the procedure never exceeded 11 steps (as many steps were mutually exclusive). I enjoy both technical writing and web application development, and would be open to working in either capacity (or even combining the two).
