Dubbed the biggest awards show of the year, Kfm 94.5 invited the people of Cape Town to vote across 30 categories for the 2022 Best of the Cape Awards. No funny business, just you choosing the Mother City’s finest. And Cape {town} Etc is adding to the gees by proudly supporting each winner.
Stay tuned: over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a full feature story on each of your favourites. No matter which way you slice it … this is Cape Town’s ‘Best Takeaway Spot’:
Best Takeaway Spot winner: Butler’s Pizza
Every time a Butler’s pizza leaves the oven, it carries with it a little piece of history. Behind the combination of herbs, sauce and fresh dough that makes their pizza so uniquely tasty, lies an original recipe created by one of South Africa’s premier culinary personalities, Lesley Faull, the founder of Cape Town’s prestigious Silwood Kitchen.
In 1989, one of Lesley’s grandsons, Robert Wilkinson, decided to start a specialist pizza delivery outlet in Rondebosch. He approached his grandmother and his uncle Tim Faull for assistance and, before long, the original Butler’s recipe was born.

Today, Butler’s Pizza is a franchise that’s grown in popularity and has expanded to seven branches across the Mother City. Not only is it serving up slices of deliciousness, but providing jobs along the way with its epic delivery service.
Hard to miss, you might have spotted a Butler’s delivery person transporting a lucky local’s dinner. Look out for an impeccably dressed driver with an unmissable red bowtie and a neon sign strapped to their vehicle’s roof. Part of the Butler’s experience is having world-class pizza delivered in style, right to your door. Delivery is always free, so please be extra kind when tipping your Butler.
Inside each Butler’s box is your perfect pizza. The menu is extensive and truly offers something for everyone. There are meat-lovers delights, vegetarian dreams, and vegan options that never skip on flavour. And it doesn’t end there.
Butler’s has gone above and beyond, catering for health-conscious Capetonians with their lite and low-carb bases, and gluten-free bases. There are kid-friendly creations, and even vegetable bases to sneak in the good stuff – pumpkin and zucchini (don’t judge it ’till you try it).
Order a deliciously crafted concoction or create your own pizza magic – from base to toppings. The Red Rocket (with red pepper pesto, bacon, feta and rocket) is a must-try. Pop’s Princess is equally good with basil pesto, tomato, feta and Butlers’ signature Butleritos (stuffed and fried peppadews). This vegetarian option will even impress hardcore carnivores.
A key player in Butler’s decades of success is the pizza’s secret recipe created by the legendary Lesley Faull himself. Curious? You’ll have to order and let your tastebuds investigate. This legacy of flavour has been carried on throughout the years and won’t be stopping anytime soon.
