A rare astronomical event causes the planet Mars to disappear from the sky as it reaches the closest distance to Earth!

 It is observed this evening, December 7, or Thursday morning, depending on the observer’s location, in North America, Greenland, northwestern Europe, and northwestern Africa.

 A unique astronomical event, which is the passage of the moon in front of Mars, meaning that Mars will disappear behind the moon for a period of time and then reappear again. This happens because the moon is the closest celestial body to Earth, and therefore the moon eclipses Mars just as it completely eclipses the sun. This phenomenon is called occultation.

 It is nice that the event can be seen with the naked eye, even if its vision with telescopes is clearer.
