Announced in 2018 and unveiled the following year, the Dutch electric solar car Lightyear One will go into production in the fall with deliveries expected in November. It will be built by the Finnish subcontractor Valmet Automotive – formerly Saab-Valmet – which had to its credit the assembly of the Porsche Boxster and Cayenne, as well as certain Mercedes.
Lightyear also announces that its Lightyear One is changing its name to Lightyear O, the “O” referring to zero CO2 emissions.
In addition to the name, there are many technical changes. The first concerns the design of the headlights, which become even more tapered. But the main change concerns the battery, the performance of the solar panels and therefore the final autonomy.
Open configurator
In 2019, the Lightyear One was announced at the “radiant” price of €149,000. In the meantime, the crisis is over. It will now cost €255,000 to acquire a Lightyear O. The online configurator allows you to choose between 10 colors and aero rim covers which will not be charged. The production of the Lightyear O will be limited to 946 units.
