The UN human rights chief has embarked on a controversial trip to China. Michelle Bachelet is going to Xinjiang, among other places, where brutal human rights violations are reported.
It is the first time in almost two decades that such a high-ranking UN representative has been allowed to come to Xinjiang. If that happens then - among others, the United States has expressed fears ahead of the trip.
"We have no hope that China will guarantee the access needed to make a full, unmanipulated assessment of the human rights situation in Xinjiang," US spokesman Ned Price said at the weekend.
