Students at two Henderson County schools will return to class Friday morning after being sent home after a bomb threat. Students from North Henderson High and Apple Valley Middle School were evacuated Thursday after a suspicious package was found in a classroom at North Henderson. Authorities say no explosives were found. Both Brevard High School and Haywood County schools received separate bomb threats Thursday, nothing was found in either. On Wednesday, authorities say a social media threat against East Rutherford High was investigated and found to be a hoax.

The SBI has reached out to the Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office over the death of an inmate. DeMarcus Antonio Royal was charged in connection with a double shooting near Pisgah View Apartments last week. The sheriff says Royal was on special watch and was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital on Sunday where he died Wednesday evening. Privacy laws prevent officials from saying why he needed medical attention. Royal is the second in-custody death this year from the Buncombe County Detention Center.
