amazon County man has been sentenced to life in prison after he admitted to killing his infant son five years ago. Jesse Wilson, 26, entered a guilty plea to first-degree murder in the death of 3-month-old Liam. The boy died in May of 2017. An autopsy showed the baby died from asphyxia and smothering and that he had head injuries.

Despite recent record heat, discussions are already underway for Code Purple nights in Asheville. The Homeless Coalition met Wednesday to brainstorm ways to improve the accessibility and awareness of shelters on cold nights. Asheville has recorded about 600 homeless people, of which 232 are unsheltered.

Representative Madison Cawthorn gets a warning for overdue financial reports. Last week, the Federal Election Commission sent his office a letter demanding the reports. The FEC says the quarterly report on Cawthorn's campaign fundraising and spending was due July 15th. Political analyst Chris Cooper says this is similar to not filing your taxes on time.
