TOP STORIES COUNTDOWN, NO. 16: Golfer's

$7/hr Starting at $25

Bartlesville High golfer Lisa Brown had already distinguished herself as one of high-quality pillars in the Class 6A girls landscape.

In the spring of 2022 her status sprouted to All-State territory.

And, she performed with steady excellence when the pressure was the hottest.

During the state tournament — hosted by the Lincoln Park West (OKC) links — Brown stumbled slightly out of the gate by shooting 83 for the opening round.

Top 20 Countdown Part 2: Several changes in team leadership made impact, No. 17

That put her in 18th place (tied) among the 73 competitors.

Not bad — but a steep climb away from All-State.

Brown dug deep into her competitive character and found her calm center in the eye of the hurricane of desire to make a rousing run in the final round.

She overcame a couple of challenging holes to break 80 — more than good enough to elevate her to ninth place (tied, 161) and earn All-State recognition.

During that final round, Brown massaged the course for 78, which was the fourth-best score (tied) on the day among the field. She surged nine places forward from where she had been after the opening round.

It was an amazing performance that landed her on the list of one of the best golfers in Lady Bruin history.

Brown’s stellar season included winning the conference title.

On a side note, the entire Bartlesville High varsity qualified for state.

The remainder of the Lady Bruins, and their state tourney scores, were: Taylor Price (174), Campbell Craig (179), Emilyn Rainbolt (188) and Grace Lumpkin (198).

Bartlesville finished fifth (702) in state among 12 teams.

Carl Holmes coached the Lady Bruin golf team.
